Eventually, we can talk about what is wrong with sports in general, and what if any lessons can be learned specifically from a horrific incident such as this. At the moment, clearly, those topics are not important. Instead, please remember the catastrophic and heartrending impact on John’s family and his friends, but also upon all of the soccer players he will no longer coach or referee. Their loss is immeasurable.
Please contribute to the memorial fund if you can:
Remember the Third Team…
The Delran Dynamite and Explosion soccer teams are uniting to raise money to help Jade with her rehabilitation after the loss of her leg.
Jade DiSanti is a 13 year girl who plays soccer for the Delran Dynamite U14 Girls team. She is a student at Phifer Middle School in Pennsauken. May 15th, she suffered an injury on the field that resulted in a completely torn ACL. June 4th, Jade had surgery to repair the ACL. She ended up having 4 surgeries over a week’s time period to try to save the leg, due to damage done to the muscle from bleeding and a blockage. On June 13th, Jade had to have her left leg removed from above the knee.
I have had the privilege of refereeing several of Jade’s matches and have vivid memories of her. As a father of two sons and two daughters that played soccer, I cannot even begin to absorb what Jade and her family are having to endure. Please visit the fundraising site and help if you are able. Thank you…
For those of you who are Grade 8 referees (or better) and would like to be added to the pool of referees assigned to Sunday SJ Boys and Girls Soccer League matches, please follow these instructions:
- Go to the web site www.sjsl.org
- Hover over (but do NOT click) the “Referees” tab on the top menu
- When the drop-down menu appears, click on “New Referees”
- At the bottom of the next page, it says “Please Fill out Form Below”, but there is no form!
- Click on the button [Sunday Games] and the form will appear
- Fill out the form completely
- When finished, DO NOT click on the [Sunday Games] button at the top of the form even though it says “Join the SJSL Arbiter group (Sunday games) here -“
- Instead, scroll to the bottom of the form and click the [Send Email] button
If you have followed all of these steps, you should receive a confirmation email that includes all of the information you entered on the form. The league will review your application and then add you to one or more assignor pools (or contact you for additional information).
If you do not receive a confirmation email, then the process was not completed and you have not been submitted. Rinse and repeat…
Recertification classes for 2014 Grade 8 are now available. The recertification exam for Grade 7 is also available. Information is on the NJREFS.com website under “Registered Referees” tab. The actual courses are accessed by logging into GameOfficials and choosing your “NJ SRC Official” identity (if you have more than one). Choose “Courses”, “Referee Courses”, and then “2014 Grade 8 (or 7) Recert…”. Do not procrastinate – they are filling rapidly.
You must pass the online test no later than three days before the classroom session in order to attend the classroom session and be recertified. Read the rest of this entry
As some of you may know, there are significant changes underway to the way US Soccer looks at the referee grades – especially 7, 8, and 9. Please see this open letter from the federation explaining the new direction.
I will share more as we learn more…
